Agnes M. Dorvinen
CHASSELL – Agnes M. “Dolly” Dorvinen, 83, a resident of Broemer Road, passed away Thursday morning, August 1, 2013, at home with her family by her side.
She was born on January 10, 1930, on the family farm on Broemer Road.
Dolly was a graduate of Houghton High School with the class of 1948. As a young woman, she worked on the family farm which became Broemer’s Dairy.
On October 29, 1949, she was united in marriage to Wilmer “Wimpy” Dorvinen. The couple resided for a short time in Chicago, Ill. and White Pine, but had spent most of their lives on Broemer Road. On August 14, 2010, Wimpy preceded Dolly in death.
She was a devout Catholic and faithful member of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Houghton. She loved her family and enjoyed following her grandchildren with their different activities. She was a sports fan; following the Green Bay Packers, Detroit Red Wings, and Detroit Tigers. She also enjoyed baking and cooking for her family and friends, gardening, picking berries, and canning vegetables. She also enjoyed a good game of Pinochle and visiting with family and friends at the family beach.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Raymond and Agnes (Andersen) Broemer and her husband.
Surviving are her brother, Robert (Marilyn) Broemer of Bloomington, Minn.; children, Michael Dorvinen of Green Bay, Wis., his daughter Nicole, Cheryl (Lloyd) Abdelnour of Hoyt Lakes, Minn. and their children Rob, Tim, Ryan, and Derek, Jacalyn (David) Strong of Chassell and their children Darcy (Monique) and Abbey, Joseph (Kathleen) Dorvinen of Chassell and their children Amy (husband Wayne and great-grandson Theodore) and Beth, Theresa Dorvinen of Appleton, Wis., Cynthia Dorvinen of Appleton, Wis., Thomas Dorvinen of Chassell, Kathleen (Michael) Bradley of Marquette, and their children Anthony (wife Heidi and great grand-children Wilmer & Grace), Jaci, Colin, Emma, Laura, and Anna, Nannetta (Jerry) Daniels of Bonaire, Ga., and their children Dolen (wife Sabrina and great-granddaughters Payton & Addyson), Hope, and Joshua, Christine (Kendall) Fisher of Appleton, Wis., and their children Zachary and Shelby; Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Dolly will be held 11 a.m. Monday, August 5, 2013, in St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Houghton, with Fr. John Martignon to celebrate. Friends may call on Monday, August 5, 2013, from 9 a.m. until time of services at the church.
Burial will be held in the Oskar Cemetery at a later date.
