Elsie Ellen Hilden

TRAPROCK VALLEY – Elsie Ellen Hilden, 90, a former Traprock Valley resident and current resident of Lapeer, Mich., passed away Wednesday morning, July 31, 2013, at the Lapeer County Medical Care Facility.

Elsie was born on January 4, 1923, in Mohawk, a daughter of Ali Martilias and Anna Allina (Heikkinen) Malila.

She attended Mohawk and Copper City Schools.

On November 11, 1947, she married George Harold Hilden. He preceded her in death on August 6, 1984. She was also preceded in death by a son, Carl Tallent of L’Anse; a son-in-law, Donald Barber; as well as six brothers, George, Bernard, Arne, Carl, Melvin and William Malila; an infant brother, Edwin; a sister, Judith (Malila) Lahnhala.

She worked as a nurse aide in Detroit during the Depression and later as a seamstress and homemaker. Elsie was an active volunteer for many years. She enjoyed painting, art work and sewing. She would have been a wonderful interior decorator.

Elsie was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lapeer, Mich.

She is survived by, a son, Kurt Hilden of Alburquerque, N.M.; two daughters, Linda Barber of Metamora, Mich., and Alice (Paul) Miller of Grand Rapids; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one sister, Lila Schier of Lake Linden; several nieces and nephews, as well as cousins in Finland.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the Erickson-Crowley-Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet with Pastor Aaron Gehrke officiating.

Friends may call at the Funeral Home on Tuesday August 6, 2013, from 4 to 7 p.m.

Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Ahmeek.
