CALUMET – Elsa Pelli, 91, of Calumet, passed away Monday, August 5, 2013, in Woodland Haven at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock where she had resided for the past two years.
She was born October 19, 1921, in Allouez Township, the daughter of William and Edla (Oja) Lempea.
Elsa was united in marriage to Carl Pelli on August 30, 1941, and he preceded her in death on April 17, 2009.
She lived in many places including the Copper Country, Bessemer and Zion, Ill. The couple moved back to the Copper Country in 1981.
Elsa worked as a parts inspector for V.R. Wesson, a carbide tool manufacturer in Waukegan, Ill., for several years.
She enjoyed knitting and sewing very much.
Elsa was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Calumet.
Besides her husband, Carl, Elsa was preceded in death by two brothers, William and John Lempea; five sisters, Anna Fredrickson, Edla Korkko, Katherine Steinberg, Ina Steinberg and Ellen Hendrickson.
Surviving are her children, Paul (Paulette) Pelli of Middleville, Mich., Bob (Jeanne) Pelli of Wadsworth, Ill, Betty (Paul) Rothi of Maple Grove, Minn., David (Linda) Pelli of Laurium, Berton Pelli of Hazel Park, Mich. and Karla (Steve) Basto of South Carolina; 24 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; a sister, Eva Miner of Garden City, Mich.; sister-in-law, Hilda Salo of Fulton Loc.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, August 9, 2013 in the First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Calumet with Pastor Richard Eskola to officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Erickson-Crowley-Peterson Funeral Home on Pine Street and one hour prior to services on Friday. Burial to be in the Lake View Cemetery.
The Erickson-Crowley-Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet is assisting the family with arrangements.
