Charles P. Aho

CHASSELL – Charles P. Aho, 88, a former resident of Chassell, passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2013, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock, where he had been a resident patient for the past year.

He was born on February 15, 1925, in Hancock, a son of the late Edward and Saimi (Waisanen) Aho. Charles was a graduate of the Hancock High School and Michigan Technological University.

Mr. Aho was a veteran, having served with the United States Army.

Following his service to his country, Charles graduated from Michigan Technological University with a Forestry degree. He then moved to Chicago, Ill., where he worked as a Forester for Common Wealth Edison, retiring after 30 years.

In retirement, Charles moved to make his home in Chassell.

On September 14, 1946, he was united in marriage to the former Dorothy Manuelson. On August 3, 2010, Dorothy preceded Charles in death.

Mr. Aho was a very dedicated faithful member of Maranatha Free Lutheran Church in Chassell. He loved to spend time outdoors hiking and fishing. His love of fishing started at a young age when he would go fishing before school often enough, that he received the nickname Gulla. In his later years, he truly enjoyed taking fishing trips with his brother to Montana and Alaska.

Preceding him in death were his wife and his parents.

Surviving are his son, Charles E. Aho of Mechanicsville, Va.; brothers, Alfred (LaVerne) Aho of Chassell, Douglas (Joan) Aho of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service for Charles will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 10, 2013, in the Maranatha Free Lutheran Church in Chassell with Pastor Darwin Cote to officiate. Burial will be at a later time in the Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church on Saturday, August 10, 2013.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family suggests that memorials be given to Maranatha Free Lutheran Church in Chassell in memory of Charles P. Aho.
