All-stars thank the community

To the editor:

The Portage Lake Little League 9-10-year-old all-star team would like to thank the community for the overwhelming support we received on our recent state championship trip to Muskegon. Once again we are reminded how lucky we are to live in a community that supports our youth and steps up in a time of need. We received hundreds of phone calls, emails, text messages and we know we were in the thoughts and prayers of the entire community. We also appreciate the financial support we received through cash donations, can donations and those that attended our fundraising car wash at Sayen’s. Without the financial support we received, this trip would have not been possible.

We would also like to thank the following businesses for their financial contributions: Sayen’s Auto, J Peltier Construction, Robert Bump Construction, Dr. McConnon, The Reliance Agency, Portage Health, First Choice Auto Body, Riutta Sales, Superior Service, Copper Country Ford, Auto Value, UP Engineering, Car Quest, Aspirus, Chassell VFW, Auto Pro Tire and Glass, The Tervo Agency, Superior National Bank, Wilmers Heating, Superior Lube, Keweenaw Automotive, McGann’s, Advance Tec Body Repair, Dave’s BP, Sayen’s Business, Northwoods, The Tire Shop, Northern Auto, Bruno’s, and Houghton Power Sports.

We would also like to thank the local media for keeping the community informed. Mix 93’s “The Dirk Side” and “The Greek’s Grapevine” for the air time to promote our fundraising efforts and report scores; The Daily Mining Gazette and Brandon Veale for the detailed articles in the sports section. I appreciate how easy and convenient you made communication.

This group of 9-10 year old boys played hard and represented our community very well. The experiences and memories they gained will last a lifetime. Thank you for making our trip possible.
