Huskies picked for fourth in North
BAY CITY, Mich. – The Michigan Tech football team was selected to finish fourth in the GLIAC North Division according to the league’s 2013 preseason coaches poll released Monday. The Huskies are coming off a 2012 season that saw them capture a share of the GLIAC North Championship with a 7-3 record.
Grand Valley State was picked to win the North Division with 94 poll points and six first-place votes.
Saginaw Valley State, which also received six first-place votes, came in second with 87 poll points. The next three teams-Ferris State (69 points), Tech (66) and Hillsdale (65)-all received one first-place vote, showing the depth of the Division. Wayne State (55), Northern Michigan (23) and Northwood (22) rounded out the poll.
Ashland, which put together an undefeated campaign in the South Division a year ago, was chosen to repeat with 88 poll points and 10 first-place votes. Ohio Dominican (80) was second followed by Findlay (69), Walsh (43), Lake Erie (40), Tiffin (30) and Malone (21).
Michigan Tech opens its 2013 season on the road at Tiffin Sept. 14 before playing its home opener Sept. 21 vs. Walsh. Findlay is the week three foe. The final seven games of the year will be against North Division competition.
Monday’s preseason poll was announced in conjunction with the release of the GLIAC’s preseason “Media Day” website at gliac.org/mediaDay/fball, which has preview videos and information for all 15 of the league’s teams.
