Phyllis E. Bergh
OSCEOLA, Ind. – Phyllis E. Bergh, 84, of Osceola, Ind., and formerly of Copper Harbor, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at the home of her daughter, Martha Lantz, with her family at her bedside.
Phyllis was born on October 14, 1928, in Grand Rapids to the late Harry and Esther (Bates) York.
On October 3, 1963, Phyllis married William Howard Bergh in Copper Harbor. They were married for 36 years. William passed away on March 28, 1999.
Phyllis is survived by two daughters, Martha (Mark) Lantz of Osceola, Ind., and Lois (Greg) Waldron of Copperville, Mich., 6 grandchildren, Kara (Michael) Lantz Griffith, Jonathan Lantz, Scott (Jessica) Waldron. Alisha Waldron, Justin Waldron, Autumn Waldron; two great grandchildren, Makenzie and Ethan Waldron. Phyllis is also survived by a brother, Eugene (Lorine) York, of Spring Arbor, Mich., and a sister Cora (Wayne) Reese of Tennessee.
A brother, Leland “Doc” York and a sister, Shirley Shafer preceded Phyllis in death.
Phyllis and her husband, Howard, were owners and operators of Bergh’s Resort in Copper Harbor where she was the manager of the resort where they resided from 1963 until 2002.
She was the 1st mate of Bergh Fishing Charter, where she would pilot the boat for fishing expeditions. Phyllis was also a counseler’s aide at Calumet High School. She previously worked at Detroit Edison Electric and Blackmore & Tubbs Furniture/Funeral Home.
Phyllis was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Mishawaka, Ind.
Friends may call on Friday August 30, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Erickson-Crowley-Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday August 31, at 11 a.m. in the First Baptist Church in Calumet with Pastor Bruce Nolen officiating.
Burial will be in the Copper Harbor Cemetery.
Erickson-Crowley-Peterson Funeral Home is assisting the family with local arrangements.
