John William Joki
L’ANSE – John William Joki, 63, formerly of Aura, died at the Baraga County Memorial Hospital in L’Anse on Sunday afternoon, September 1, 2013.
He was born on May 13, 1950 in Laurium to the late William and Barbara (Hilden) Joki, graduating later from the L’Anse High School in 1970. He was employed at a machine shop in Cheboygan, Wis. for three years, worked at Celotex in L’Anse for nine years and owned and operated “John’s Junk” in Baraga County for over 20 years.
On January 30, 1989 he married the love of his life, Pearl (Nygord) Wise. He enjoyed mechanic work, reading, creativity, natural medicine and healthy organic foods.
Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by his grandparents and numerous aunts and uncles.
He is sadly missed by his wife, Pearl; a step-daughter, Zita A. Wise; step- grandchildren, Lauren and Claire Wise; a sister, Karen (Tom) Chaudier of Negaunee; brothers, Jimmy Joki of Iron River, David (Alice) Joki of Calumet and Michael (Yvonne) Joki of L’Anse; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a good friend, Mike Davis of Grand Haven, Mich. and faithful helper, Corey Brouchoud of Aura.
A memorial service will be held at a later time followed by interment in the Aura Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
