Stewart “Jocko” McLennan

LAURIUM – Stewart “Jocko” McLennan, 77, a resident of Laurium passed away at the Omega House on Saturday September 7, 2013 following a lengthy illness.

Stewart was born on May 31, 1936, in Laurium, a son of Stewart and Florence (Bedard) McLennan. He attended Calumet High School, graduating in 1954.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Sarah Ortiz and two brothers, Donald and Robert.

Stewart was employed by C&H Mining Company working underground. After the closing of the C&H he worked at Shaltz Plumbing and Heating until its closure and lastly he began working as a self-employed plumber.

Stewart was an avid baker. He was also a huge fan of the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Red Wings and the Dallas Cowboys.

Stewart was a member of the Laurium Fire Department for many years before joining the Calumet Village Fire Department where he was still an active member.

Surviving are: sisters, Mary Laverne Turner of Wyandotte, Mich.; Shirley (Marty) Peter of Calumet; his Pomeranian, Mac; many special and close friends like Mike (Marilyn) Panijan; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Services for Stewart will be held on Friday, September 13, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home with Pastor Ken Toth to officiate.

Friends may call at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 12.

Burial with military rites conducted by the Copper Country Veterans will be in the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet.

In lieu of Stewart’s life the family asks to send donations to the Copper Country Firefighters Museum 327 6th Street Calumet, MI 49913 or to the Omega House 2211 Maureen Lane Houghton, MI 49931.

The Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
