HOUGHTON – Rubyann Eberhardt, 83, a former Houghton businesswoman and past resident of Dollar Bay and Arbor Green, died on Friday, September 6, 2013, at Woodland Haven of the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock.
She was born in Baraga, on November 14, 1929, a daughter of the late A. Reuben and Anna (Archambeau) Eberhardt and was a 1947 graduate of the Baraga High School.
She was married in 1950 to Robert Belanger of L’Anse and he preceded her in death in 1979.
Rubyann was first employed as a telephone switch board operator at Michigan Tech University and later owned and operated Wilcox Camera in Houghton for 39 years, retiring in October of 2003. She also obtained her private pilot license and was co-owner of W&E Aviation at the Houghton County Memorial Airport. W&E provided flight school, air ambulance and maintenance service.
Rubyann was a member of First Lutheran Church in Dollar Bay and the Michigan Tech Mineral Museum Society.
Surviving are three daughters; two sons; six grandchildren, Susan Belanger of Hubbell; daughter, Catherine Ricard, Carmen (Frank) Murphy of Chassell; and children, Colleen, Heather and Michelle, Kay Belanger (Dave Willoughby) of Canada, and children, Evan and Natasha, Dale R. Belanger of Dodgeville, Gary N. Belanger of Maurice, La.; and several cousins.
Besides her parents, Rubyann was also preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Jean Hyder.
The family would like to express a sincere thank you to the staff at Woodland Haven and doctors and staff of the Houghton Medical Arts for the wonderful care given to their mother.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2013, in the First Lutheran Church in Dollar Bay, with Pastor Sally Wilke to officiate.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
Interment will be in the Baraga Cemetery.
