Vikes, Lakes sweep
BARAGA – Baraga paid no mind to an early setback Tuesday, overcoming a 6-1 deficit to begin Tuesday’s Mountain Lakes Conference match with Ontonagon before sweeping the Gladiators 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-21).
After Baraga’s comeback to win the first set, the teams were close in the second. Baraga expanded its 16-15 lead to 19-15, and after an Ontonagon sideout, Baraga took it the rest of the way, with senior Melissa Putala serving aces on points 24 and 25.
In the third, Baraga trailed 14-8 before a run from the serve of junior Shayla Mayo put things on nearly-even terms, setting up the Vikings to finish it off.
Putala had a team-best 11 kills and five aces, while Bedner had 16 assists. Mayo posted eight digs and four kills.
