Heavy defeats for Baraga, Ontonagon
POWERS – The North Central Jets gave the crowd plenty to cheer about on the night of their Homecoming, routing the Baraga Vikings 52-8.
North Central came out on fire, putting up 22 first quarter points while their defense held Baraga scoreless throughout the first half.
Devin Wodrazka scored on the third play of the game, breaking through the line for a 57-yard touchdown run. Josh Granquist followed suit with a touchdown of his own, and then tyler Plunger scored the Jets’ third TD from three yards out.
“Things got going early,” said Jets coach Kevin Bellefeuil. “It was homecoming, so our crowd was pretty excited and things went pretty fast.”
He added that one of Baraga’s leaders unfortunately got hurt early on in the contest.
“That really puts you under the 8-ball when you only come with 16 kids,” he said. “That wasn’t good for them.”
Jets quarterback Rob Granquist was 6-for-6 for 335 yards and two touchdowns. Their leading rusher was Wodrazka with eight carries for 86 yards and two touchdowns. Andrew Estrada had both receiving touchdowns from Granquist; one for 49 yards and another for 13.
North Central (4-0) resumes Friday, hosting Crystal Falls.
“That will be a big game, us and Forest Park,” Bellefeuil added.
