Elsie E. Maki

ATLANTIC MINE – Elsie E. Maki, 85, of Atlantic Mine, died on Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock.

She was born in Painesdale, on November 13, 1927, a daughter of the late Charles and Tyyne (Narvja) Torro and attended the Painesdale and Doelle schools.

On September 3, 1949, she was married to Richard W. Maki in Hancock. He preceded her in death on October 28, 2004.

Elsie was a member of the Christian Science Society in Houghton.

She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She and Richard provided a loving, happy home for their children to grow up in. Elsie’s children and grandchildren were the love of her life. She always looked forward to their visits and spending time with them. She enjoyed gardening and was a wonderful baker and was known to make the best Rieska around. Elsie also enjoyed visiting with her many dear friends and relatives. She will be remembered as a loving and caring person and will be missed dearly by all who knew her. Elsie is survived by her loving children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Cully (Deb) Maki of Lake Gerald; Barbara (Lloyd) Godell of Antigo, Wis., and children, Jesse (Lisa) Godell of Endicott, NY, and Michael (Betty Weidmann) of Stevens Point, Wis.; Bruce (Julie) Maki of Atlantic Mine, and children, Kendra and Caleb; Brian (Carrie) Maki of South Range, and children, Melissa (Dan) Niemi of Painesdale, and Troy (Heather) Maki of Painesdale and their children, Rylan and Oskar; Kevin (DeeDee) Maki of Trimountain, and daughter, Erin Bohto (Steve Juntunen) of South Range; three sisters, Beverly (Jim) Butcher of Croswell, Mich., Shirley (Don) Kahler of Croswell and formerly of Tapiola, and Helen (John) Cline of Tapiola; two brothers-in-law, Daniel (Darlene) Maki of Lake Linden and Leslie Raisanen of Bergland; a sister-in-law, Patricia (Ray) Nelson of Boston Loc.; one aunt, Irene (Leonard) Pelto of Arbor Green, Houghton; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents and husband, Elsie was also preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Torro; and two sisters, Betty Raisanen and Dorothy Parker.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2013, in the Mountain View Mortuary in South Range, with Reader Gisela Shonnard to officiate.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday in the mortuary.

Interment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery in South Range.
