Kenneth R. Frantila

FRANKLIN MINE LOC. – Kenneth R. Frantila, 65, a resident of Franklin Mine Loc., Hancock, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2013, at the Oscar G. Johnson V.A. Medical Center in Iron Mountain.

He was born in Hancock, on March 25, 1948, a son of the late John and Senia (Pelto) Frantila. He graduated from the Hancock Central High School in 1966, and attended Suomi College in Hancock.

Ken was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1966 to 1968 in Vietnam.

For a period of time, Ken resided in the state of Washington. After returning to the area, he worked at the White Pine Copper Mine and Northern Hardwoods.

He enjoyed fishing, bird hunting, deer hunting and was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers.

Surviving are a sister, Shirley (Jerome) Kangas of Paavola; a sister-in-law, Judy Frantila of Houghton; one aunt, Lillian Pouttu of Tapiola; a cousin, Mike (Brenda) Pelto of Houghton; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents, Ken was also preceded in death by a brother, Stanley Frantila.

Private services will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2013, in the Jukuri-Antila Funeral Home in Hancock, with Pastor Bucky Beach to officiate.

Interment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock, with military rites to be conducted by the Copper Country Veteran’s Association.
