HANCOCK – Mrs. Helen Kotila, 86, a long-time resident of Hancock, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2013, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility.
She was born in Hancock on February 19, 1927, to the late Arthur and Stephanie (Houle) Baril. She graduated from Hancock High School in 1944. She later married Arnold Kotila, with the couple raising their family and residing in Hancock. He preceded her in death on July 9, 1984.
Helen was a devoted member of the Church of the Resurrection in Hancock. Besides being a loving wife and mother, she also enjoyed her pet dogs and cats. She also liked her family Labor Day walks across the Mackinac Bridge.
Besides her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Gronwald; five brothers; Joseph, Francis, Archille, Clem and Albert; and three sisters, Jean Bernice, Celine and Angeline.
She is survived by three sons, Greg (Melanie) Kotila of Rio Rancho, NM, Scott Kotila of Hancock and Richard Kotila of Cheyboygan, Wis.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 9, 2013, in the Church of the Resurrection with Rev. Fr. Francis Dobrzenski to officiate.
Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton.
Friends may call at the O’Neill-Dennis Funeral Home in Hancock on Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m.
