Tech tennis wins close one with Saginaw Valley
HOUGHTON – Michigan Tech won its second straight women’s tennis match – this one a 5-4 decision over Saginaw Valley State – to improve to 4-9 on the season. The Huskies took four of the six singles matches to earn the team win Friday.
SVSU began the match by claiming two of the three doubles flights. Audrey Hutton and Emilia Tenizbaeva cruised to an 8-1 win at No. 3. The Cardinals won the other two by close scores. Izabella Ismailova and Erin Doud defeated Kwang Suthijindawong and Erika Tenizbaeva 9-8 (10-8) at No. 1. Meghan Woody and Charlotte Wong beat Natalia Lebedeva and Kat Donovan 8-6 at No. 2.
Tech won its customary points at Nos. 1 and 2 singles behind the strength of Lebedeva and Suthijindawong. The final two team points came from Emilia Tenizbaeva and Donovan. Tenizbaeva secured a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles. Donovan clinched the team victory with a 6-1, 6-1 score and just her second singles win of the season.
Michigan Tech will have a day off before wrapping up its fall regular season at home vs. Lake Superior State Sunday (Oct. 13).
