Ellen M. Anderson
ESSEXVILLE, Mich. – Ellen M. Anderson, 91, formerly of Hancock, died at the Bay County Medical Care Facility in Essexville, Mich. on Wednesday morning, October 16, 2013.
She was born on February 19, 1922, in Chassell to the late Thomas and Maggie (Saari) Maatta. She was a 1940 graduate of Chassell High School.
Ellen married Paul J. Anderson in July of 1942, and they moved to Hancock where they raised their daughters. Ellen was employed for over 20 years in dormitory food service at Michigan Tech. Following retirement in 1982, the couple then traveled with their trailer throughout the country. They also enjoyed going to Isle Royal on their boat and fishing in Lake Superior. Her husband preceded her in death on May 11, 1998.
Ellen was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hancock where she belonged to the Women’s Missionary Outreach group. She was an avid women’s league bowler, and enjoyed gardening and crocheting.
Besides her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by three brothers, Peter, John and Carl; and three sisters, Ruth, Esther and Dorothy.
She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Anderson of Milwaukee, and Paulette (Robert) Foco of Saginaw; grandchildren, Nathan (Greta) Foco of Royal Oak and Robin (Andrew) Varnon of Bolingbrook, Ill.; and great-grandchildren, Noelle and Holden Foco.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the O’Neill-Dennis Funeral Home in Hancock with Rev. Jesse Aho of Zion Lutheran Church to officiate. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from noon until the 1 p.m. time of the services.
