LL-H defeats Hancock, Chassell sweeps

LAKE LINDEN – Lake Linden-Hubbell recovered from dropping the first set to defeat Hancock 3-1 (13-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-11) in a non-league volleyball match Tuesday.

Ciara Larson came up with 15 kills and 21 digs for the winners, while Erin Gast and Sarah Audette notched six aces apiece.

After posting only five kills and four service errors in the first set, the Lakes upped their kill total to 10 to take back momentum.

In the third, Larson had six of LL-H’s 12 kills and in the fourth, LL-H had six aces to complete the comeback.

Sarah Audette led LL-H with 18 assists and Carli Ongie added 11.

For Hancock, Amanda Manninen and Shannon Anderson had six kills apiece. Anderson had team-leading totals in assists (14) and digs (27), while Jen Hannon added four aces.

LL-H hosts Calumet Thursday, while Hancock plays at home Thursday for the Copper Spike against Houghton.

Chassell 3, Ontonagon 0

ONTONAGON – Chassell moved to 5-1 in the Mountain Lakes Conference by sweeping Ontonagon 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-17) Tuesday.

The Panthers have two league matches remaining next week. They’d need a win Tuesday over Ewen-Trout Creek to clinch at least a tie, while a second win at Baraga Thursday gives Chassell the crown outright.

L’Anse 2, Dollar Bay 0

Ironwood 2, Dollar Bay 0

DOLLAR BAY – Dollar Bay dropped a volleyball triangular on its home court Tuesday.

In a 25-21, 25-16 loss to L’Anse, Samantha Richards had six kills for the Bays, while Julia Daavettila posted four aces and five assists.

In the 25-13, 26-24 loss to Ironwood, Alyssa Hakala had six digs and four aces.
