Rowe selected as MVP of WestPAC

HOUGHTON – Calumet junior Lexie Rowe was named the most valuable player of the 2013 WestPAC volleyball season in coaches’ voting released today.

The undefeated conference champions put two players in addition to Rowe on the all-WestPAC first and second teams and earned coach of the year honors for coach Lisa Twardzik.

Setter Terilynne Budreau, a junior, and libero Megan Yeo, a senior, earned first-team selections for Calumet, alongside Hancock Bulldogs setter Nicole Anderson, a junior, and right-side hitter Taylor Mattson, a senior.

The other two spots on the first team went to Houghton junior middle hitter Sydney Dillinger and West Iron County middle hitter Cassilyn Pellizzer.

The Bulldogs and Copper Kings also got two players apiece on the second team. Hancock’s honorees were junior outside hitters Shannon Anderson and Amanda Manninen. Calumet was represented by a pair of senior middles, Loretta Anderson and Alisa Storm.

Houghton senior middle Elisa Jurmu was a second-teamer as was L’Anse senior middle Valerie Rajala.

Local players receiving honorable mention included Catherine Frantti of Calumet, Jen Hannon of Hancock, Rebecca Roth of L’Anse and Ashlyn Kero and Jada Riutta of Houghton.
