Mary Theresa Yankovich
HANCOCK – Mary Theresa Yankovich, 84, a long-time resident of Hancock, passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2013, at PortagePoint of Portage Health in Hancock.
She was born in Hancock on February 15, 1929 to the late Louis and Rose (Marshall) Kulka. She graduated from Hancock High School and later married Walter “Bobo” Yankovich on May 21, 1949. They lived their married life in Hancock before he passed away on August 12, 2012.
She was a member of the Church of the Resurrection in Hancock. She was a former women’s league bowler and also enjoyed coin collecting. She also liked her pets and often supported and contributed to organizations that helped animals such as the ASPCA, PETA and the Doris Day Animal League.
Besides her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Helen Larsen; and three brothers, Raymond, Bernard and L. James Kolka.
She is survived by her son, James (Laurel) Yankovich of Chassell; her granddaughter, Jonnelle Yankovich; a sister-in-law, Alice Kolka of Chassell; and by several nieces and nephews.
Private family funeral services will be held on Thursday at the O’Neill-Dennis Funeral Home in Hancock with Rev. Fr. William Ssozi to officiate. Spring burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton. There will be no public visitation.
The O’Neill-Dennis Funeral Home in Hancock is assisting the family with the arrangements.
