Tech volleyball ends losing streak at five

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Michigan Tech volleyball team snapped its five-match losing streak with a five-set victory over Lake Superior State on Friday night. The Huskies won with set scores 25-19, 22-25, 20-25, 25-22 and 15-13.

“We hung on tight, and pulled off a much-needed win,” Tech volleyball coach Matt Jennings said. “I’m very happy with the toughness we demonstrated out there, especially in the late stages of the fourth and fifth sets.”

Kendall Ward led the Huskies with 18 kills while Sylvie Rokosh tallied 15 and Kienna Sharp added 11. Rokosh (.367) and Sharp (.375) also had over-.300 attack percentages.

“Sylvie, Kendall, and Kienna were very strong offensively for us tonight,” added Jennings. “They really kept a good Lake State defense on their heels. Aubrey Havlichek stepped up big for us as well, especially in serve receive.”

Madeline Haben set up the Tech offense with 45 assists and Jacqueline Aird led the defense with 12 digs. Havlichek added six kills and six digs in the match.

Emily Snyder had a match-high 20 kills to lead the Lakers. Janelle Nagy had 42 assists and Meghan Drobish added 21 digs for the home team.

The Huskies wrap up the 2013 season today at Saginaw Valley State.
