Hancock businessman dies at age 94
HANCOCK – Robert Sintkowski first met Frank Taucher when he was 6 years old because of his friendship with Frank Taucher Jr., and Sintkowski had a relationship with the senior Taucher well into adulthood.
Frank P. Taucher died Wednesday at Portage Health’s PortagePointe Senior Living Community. He was 94.
Sintkowski said he was a member of the Knights of Columbus with Taucher, also. He at one time was Navigator, or president, in the Knights of Columbus, which worked out of Church of the Resurrection in Hancock and other churches.
“He’s the man that ran the meetings,” Sintkowski said.
Taucher was also a member of the K of C Color Corps, who represented charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism.
“Frank was definitely a color corps man as long as he could walk,” Sintkowski said.
Taucher was born in 1919 in Baltic. He attended Painesdale High School. He was in the 8th Air Force in England during World War II. In the early 1970s, he purchased Coast-To-Coast Hardware in Hancock.
“He was a good businessman,” Sintkowski said.
Sintkowski’s wife, Lucille, said Taucher was good to his customers.
“He was an honest business man,” she said.
The business was later was passed to his son, Frank
Lucille Sintkowski said Taucher was committed to his family.
“Family was always first with him,” she said.
Lucille Sintkowski said Taucher cared much about what was happening in Hancock.
“He was very community-minded,” she said.
Hancock City Manager Glenn Anderson said he got to know Taucher after he retired.
Anderson said he often would meet Taucher as he was walking through the city, which he did often.
“He put miles and miles (walking) on the Hancock streets,” he said. “I got to know him well.”
Anderson also said Taucher was committed to the future of Hancock.
“He was always a progressive man,” Anderson said. “He wanted the city to grow.”
Anderson said Taucher was a gentle man.
A Mass of Christian burial for Frank P. Taucher will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Church of the Resurrection in Hancock.
