CALUMET – Lyla Herstrom, 88, a resident of Calumet, passed away on Friday, November 22, 2013, at Our Lady of Mercy Health and Rehab in Hubbell where she had been a resident since 2006.
She was born on November 30, 1924, in Calumet, a daughter of the late Arne and Ida (Paulson) Seppala.
She was married to Rudy Kela and later to Paul Herstrom, both preceded her in death.
Lyla worked many years providing private duty home care for the elderly.
Lyla was an animal lover and always had a dog to keep her company. She was a longtime member of the TOPS organization and maintained KOPS status for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; a son, Gary Kela; a brother, Howard; and a son-in-law, James M. Jukuri.
Surviving are two daughters, Gail Jukuri of Laurium and Debbie Villagomez of New Mexico; son, Paul Herstrom of Calumet; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Stephanie, Nicole, Melissa, Jeremy, Cierra and Michael; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Melba Marx (Bernie Murn) of Calumet; brother, LeRoy “Stewart” Seppala of Houghton County Medical Care; sister-in-law, Marlene Seppala of Howell, Mich.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2013, at 6 p.m. in the Erickson-Crowley-Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet with Eric Byykkonen to officiate.
Friends may call at the Erickson-Crowley-Peterson Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5 to 6 p.m.
