Christmas in Calumet events scheduled
CALUMET – For the 10th year, Main Street Calumet is conducting its Christmas in Calumet event each Saturday until Dec. 21.
Laura Smythe, MSC promotions chairwoman, said Christmas in Calumet takes place each Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
There will be horse-drawn wagon rides during the event, Smythe said, and they will be bringing a special guest to Rowe Furniture on Fifth Street each day at 11 a.m.
“Santa is here from 11 to 1,” she said.
Although the two aren’t associated, Smythe said there will be another event taking place in Calumet Saturday, so those attending one can attend the other, also.
“That first Saturday coincides with the Poor Artists Sale,” she said.
That event takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Calumet High School gymnasium.
There are more than 40 businesses in Calumet and Laurium taking part in Christmas in Calumet, Smythe said.
In many of the business, shoppers can register for drawings for $2,000 worth of gifts. The drawings will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday and Dec. 21 at Rowe Furniture in Calumet and on Dec. 14 in Laurium with Santa. Those entering the drawings need not be present to win.
There will be groups of musicians roaming the streets during the Saturday events, Smythe said.
“We sort of have musicians that pop up here and there,” she said.
People who would like to carol during Christmas in Calumet are encouraged do so, also, Smythe said.
“We’ll have sheet music with traditional Christmas carols,” she said.
The sheet music can be picked up at Rowe Furniture from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Saturday Smythe said. “They can take off and carol wherever they want.”
Parking is free in Calumet until Jan. 2, Smythe said.
