Walfred A. “Tony” Nelson
HOUGHTON – Walfred A. “Tony” Nelson, 94, a resident of Arbor Green, Houghton, died suddenly on Sunday, December 8, 2013.
He was born in Atlantic Mine, on June 9, 1919, a son of the late Adolph and Lempi (Hanu) Nelson and attended school locally.
Tony was employed at Bradley-Thompson Tool in Southfield, Mich., for 20 years, retiring from there.
He was married to the former Eleanor P. Paananen in Hancock Township.
Tony was a life member of the Finnish Cultural Association of Farmington and a life member of the Moose Lodge of Farmington. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He enjoyed professional sports and was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers.
Surviving are his wife, Eleanor, a patient at PortagePointe; one son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Linda Nelson of South Lyon, Mich.; two children, Steven Nelson of Commerce Twp. and Kelly (Joe) Hammond of Wixom, Mich.; three great-grandchildren, Collin and Trevor Nelson, and Mason Hammond; one sister, Martha Isaacson of Arbor Green, Houghton; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Tony was also preceded in death by two sisters, Florence Maki and Mildred Harris.
As requested, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held in the spring in the Mountain View Mortuary in South Range with times to be announced at that time. Interment will be in the Waasa Cemetery.
