Splits for local GLHL teams
MADISON, Wis. – Jimmy Brey scored four goals and the Calumet Wolverines rolled to a 8-3 victory over the Madison Blues Friday night.
Brey’s linemates Jeff Erkkila and Logan Rastello also had goals, and racked up more than 10 points total. Wayne Hyrkas had two goals in the contest, and Ryan Patrick earned the win with one goal allowed in the opening two frames. Rookie goaltender Jason Rank made his Great Lakes Hockey League debut, allowing two goals on 10 shots in the third.
The Calumet Wolverines settled for a split on the road after an 8-1 loss at the hands of the Fond du Lac Bears Saturday night.
Mike Babcock scored the Wolverines’ lone goal, chipping in a rebound off a Ty Harju point shot.
Saturday, Tim Viola’s shorthanded goal netted the Portage Lake Pioneers a 9-8 overtime win over DePere.
Jeff Laux and Tom Love scored twice for PL, which got 33 saves from Matt Messina.
The teams split the two-game series after DePere won game one 8-4 Friday despite two goals and an assist from Ryan Sullivan.
