Midgets edge Panther boys, 56-50
HURLEY, Wis. – Hurley, Wis., had the better of the fourth quarter and got the better of Ewen-Trout Creek, 56-50, in a non-league boys’ basketball game Tuesday night.
E-TC had a 37-36 lead after three, but the Midgets scored 20 points in the fourth. Their lead was eight with about two minutes remaining, but back-to-back buckets from Landon Maki (a three) and Lane Brown made it a one-possession game inside the final minute.
Hurley missed on its end, but E-TC got called for a travel while passing to an open Maki on the wing.
“We would like to definitely have some more wins on the board, but tonight was definitely a step in the right direction,” E-TC coach Brad Besonen said to the Daily Globe of Ironwood.
Brown led all scorers with 19 points. Maki added 13.
Four Midgets scored in double figures led by 18 from James Sukanen.
E-TC hosts Bessemer Friday in Porcupine Mountain Conference play.
