Nassiri waives hearing
HOUGHTON – The Dollar Bay man accused of killing his wife will head to circuit court on Wednesday.
Nima Nassiri, 34, was given a revocable waiver of his preliminary hearing in 97th District Court Monday.
Nassiri was arrested at their home on Dec. 8 for allegedly assaulting his wife, Sanaz Nezami, 27. She was first taken to Portage Health. She was later transferred to Marquette General Hospital, where she died from her injuries on Dec. 12.
The couple had recently moved to Dollar Bay. Nezami had enrolled in Michigan Technological University for a master’s degree in environmental engineering.
Nassiri is accused of second-degree murder, a felony punishable by life in prison. The charge states he had intent to kill but the act was not premeditated.
Nassiri’s arraignment is scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday in Houghton County Circuit Court. He remains in the Houghton County Jail on $5 million bond.
