Marie M. Bianchi

SOUTH RANGE – Marie M. Bianchi, 92, of South Range, died unexpectedly at her home on Thursday, January 16, 2014.

She was born in South Range, on July 21, 1921, a daughter of the late Peter and Mary (Andrieni) Pierini, and was a 1938 graduate of the Painesdale High School. On July 22, 1943, she was married to Salvatore “Sal” Bianchi at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Painesdale.

The couple owned and operated Pierini’s Bar in South Range from 1948-1975. Marie also worked for several years as a teller at the South Range State Bank. Marie was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in South Range, where she was a member of the Altar Society and sang in the choir. She enjoyed crafting.

Surviving are two sisters-in-law, Emelia “Lee” Niemitalo of South Range and Mary Bianchi of The Bluffs in Houghton; two nephews, Michael Pierini of Green Bay, Wis. and David (Lynette Kelnas) Pierini of Chicago, Ill; three nieces, Jeanne Dianda of Chicago, Ill, Mary Lou (David) Wisti of Houghton, and Kathie Dianda of Calumet; two special friends, Jean Simila and Marlene Butina both of South Range; as well as great and great-great nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother, Robert Pierini; and nephew, Gary Pierini.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2014, in Holy Family Catholic Church in South Range, with Fr. John Martignon as celebrant.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the mass on Wednesday at the church.

Spring burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton.

Memorials may be made to Holy Family Parish, Omega House, 2211 Mareen Lane, Houghton, MI 49931; Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly, 527 Hancock St., Hancock, MI 49930; or the the charity of one’s choice in the name of Marie M. Bianchi.
