Walter C. Laverdiere

CALUMET – Walter C. Laverdiere, 90, went home to his Lord on January 15, 2014.

He was born on October 9, 1923, son of Dominic and Corinne Laverdiere in Lake Linden.

He was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Church in Lake Linden.

A graduate of Lake Linden High School, he returned from service in the United States Army to work at Laverdiere Motors, with his father, a business he owned and operated for over 50 years.

On October 2, 1948, he was joined in marriage to the former Louise Forso at Sacred Heart Church in Calumet and she preceded him in death on January 6, 2004 after 50 years of marriage.

He was active in organizations such as Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. He also served as mayor of Lake Linden for 4 years.

Walter started a band in the early 40s called Walt Laverdiere and the Top Hatters and continued playing the drums at various dances and events for many years.

A sister, Gertrude Kadjan, preceded him in death.

Surviving Walt are his children, Linda (Bernie) Falk of Sheboygan Falls, Wis., Sherri Robinson (Esko Salmela) of Lake Linden and Bruce Laverdiere of Calumet; his grandchildren, Fred (Karen) Berryman of Calumet, Erik (Cassie) Berryman of Calumet; James (Diane) Robinson of Hiram, Ga., Chad (Amy) Buchmann of Rochester, Minn., and Brett (Anne) Buchmann of Rhinelander, Wis.; sister, Violette of New Port Richey, Fla.; and numerous nephews and nieces.

A Memorial Mass will be held in July of 2014 and will be announced at that time by the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet.
