Grace M. Godin
CALUMET – Grace M. Godin, 84 passed away Friday, January 17, 2014 at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility. Grace was born in Highway location on June 15, 1929 a daughter of Albert and Esther (Aho) Kaurala. She married Francis Godin on July 30, 1949 at the Sacred Heart Church. The couple moved to Chicago where they made their home for 25 years and raised their only son. She was active in her church, community and all school activities and worked for the Brachs Candy Co. They returned to Calumet, where their heart had always been, and started the second stage of their life.
Grace enjoyed family and friends, the U.P. and all its activities, and spending time at the camp with the love of her life. Her pride and joy was her husband and her son and grandson. She was a great blessing as a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, as her daughter-in-law and granddaughter-in-law will attest to, and as a friend to everyone she knew. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and was a member of Sacred Heart Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two brothers-in-law, and one sister-in-law.
She is survived by her husband Francis Godin, her son, Larry (J.D.) of Calumet, her grandson, SMSGT Larry, Jr. (Karla) and great-granddaughter Kayla and great-grandson Brandon all of Anchorage, Alaska AFB.
Grace and her family would like to thank the staff at Houghton County Medical Care Facility, especially the third floor employees, for her great care the past four years since her stroke and Dr. Bonnie Hafeman for her care.
Friends are invited to a Memorial Mass that will be held on Tuesday, January 21 at 11 A.M in the Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Fr. Paul Manderfield to officiate. Luncheon will follow.
