Potent Devils dismiss E-TC

EWEN – The U.P.’s No. 3 boys’ basketball team, Ironwood, demonstrated its credentials impressively at Ewen-Trout Creek Thursday, heading back to the Gogebic Range with a 70-35 win.

“They were just better than us at everything tonight. They played very good halfcourt defense, they’ve got good length. Their one guard is 5-10 and everybody else is 6-2 and bigger,” E-TC coach Brad Besonen said.

The Red Devils (9-1) put their stamp on this one early, outscoring the Panthers 25-8 in the first quarter and 20-9 in the second.

“They didn’t miss much of anything in the first half and what they missed, they cleaned up anyway,” Besonen said.

Adam Mackey, one of the premier players in the U.P., finished with 17 points for Ironwood, which hosts Ontonagon tonight. Bryant Rowe added 16, including four threes.

E-TC (2-8) is at L’Anse tonight. Alan Goll hit three triples to lead the Panthers with nine points.
