Copper Kings avenge loss to Flivvers
CALUMET – Calumet avenged a loss at Kingsford a week before in Great Lakes Hockey League play, defeating the Flivvers 4-2 Saturday night at Calumet Colosseum.
Goals from Travis Porter and Eric Mattila gave the Copper Kings a 2-1 lead after a period before the Flivvers tied it up in the second.
Braden Anderson netted the eventual game-winner later in the second to give Calumet a 3-2 lead.
The Kings changed goaltenders in the second intermission and held the Flivvers off the board in the third period, adding an insurance goal of their own by Tyler Loukus with 3:01 to play.
Tyler Hubbard gets credit for the win after stopping 13 of 15 shots over the first 34 minutes. Ian Carroll made all eight saves in relief.
Evan Billeck and Matthew Prouty contributed a pair of assists apiece for the Kings (3-15-1, 3-5 GLHC).
Calumet is idle until it travels downstate this weekend for the MIHL Showcase in Trenton. The Copper Kings play Muskegon Mona Shores Friday afternoon and Livonia Churchill Saturday morning.
Pinckney 8, Jeffers 5
HOUGHTON – Jeffers dug itself too deep a hole early Saturday, losing to its downstate guests at MacInnes Student Ice Arena.
Anthony Harris scored unassisted for the Jets (14-6-1) just 1:56 into the game, but Pinckney had the next five.
Cooper Jenkins had a hat trick for the visiting Pirates, from Livingston County.
Jeffers scored four times in a 10-minute span of the third, two on the power play and one shorthanded, but gave up two in the same span, and the Jets never got closer than 7-5.
Anthony Harris had a pair of goals for Jeffers, with the others coming from Nick Harris, Nick Trezona and Drew Morris.
Dax Durocher made 28 saves for the Jets, who play at L’Anse Thursday night.
