A discussion of the word faith

To the editor:

DMG-LTE 12-18-13 titled: A discussion on the word “faith.” As a born again Christian I believe the word “faith” is right up there with the words love and grace. Did you know that: “faith” is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen and without “faith” it is impossible to please God, for whoever comes to God must believe that He is and that He rewards those who diligently seek Him? Did you know we are saved (born again) by grace through “faith,” and not of our righteousness but it is a gift of God? And Jesus said: “if you have “faith” as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, “Move from here to there,” and it will move: and nothing will be impossible for you.” Wow. I love what “faith” can do if we’ll believe without doubting. Read: (Mark 11: 22-24).

David Keranen mentioned “science.” I love to watch the science channels on TV they’re very interesting. But, God’s invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead.

If those scientists just had the “faith” as of the mustard seed they would have “sufficient evidence” of – “God is,” “Where and how life began?” “Why we are here (our purpose) and what happens when we die?” Fact is: All, 7 billion souls living on this planet right now will be dead in less than 120 years. Death is a reality, not a theory, if a person ever thought there may be a minute chance of an afterlife, who or what would they put their “faith” in: Science, mankind, themselves or God?

Having “faith” is “sufficient evidence” of things not see; like with our imagination, we see things we hope for in our minds eye then we act on them as though they already are. “Faith” is similar. We study God’s Word, we act on its teaching through “faith” and by grace through “faith” we become a new creation in Christ. Through “faith” we are born again, delivered from addictions, freed from the bondage of sin and free from the fear of death. “Faith,” grace, love and salvation are all gifts from God. Accept them and you will have peace way beyond your understanding; even in uncertain times.
