Nassiri to undergo forensic exam

HOUGHTON – A Dollar Bay man accused of killing his wife will be allowed to undergo forensic examination.

The motion for Nima Nassiri, 34, of Dollar Bay, was approved at a pretrial hearing in Houghton County Circuit Court Wednesday.

Last month, Nassiri stood mute to a charge of second-degree homicide. Standing mute is treated as equivalent to a not guilty plea.

The second-degree charge states he had intent to kill, but not forethought. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to life in prison.

Nassiri was arrested at home on Dec. 8 for allegedly assaulting his wife, Sanaz Nezami, 27. She died four days later from her injuries at Marquette General Hospital.

The couple had recently moved to the area. Nezami planned to pursue a master’s degree in environmental engineering at Michigan Technological University in the spring semester.

Nassiri’s next court date is not scheduled.
