Barbara J. Beveridge

LAKE LINDEN – Barbara J. Beveridge, 70, of Lake Linden, passed away at Portage Health on Sunday, February 16, 2014, after a battle with cancer.

She was born on July 4, 1943, a daughter of Joseph and Exzilda (Holstlander) Altman; and with her July 4 birth date, she was the “Fire-Cracker of Lake Linden.”

She was a graduate of Lake Linden-Hubbell High School in the class of 1961. She worked at the West Oak Middle School in Mundelein, Ill., and retired in 2006, when she returned to the Copper Country.

She was married to “Fred” Lewis Beveridge on June 10, 1961, at St. Joseph Church in Lake Linden. He passed away on January 10, 1996.

She was a proud member of American Legion Post 90 Aux where she served as the chaplain. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She collected a variety of red, white, and blue memorabilia. She enjoyed baking, cooking, canning, picking berries, garage sales, and making “Barbie Bars.” She liked to play cribbage and dancing. She was the life of the party and “liked to smoke and drink.”

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her only brother, Joseph Altman.

She is survived by two sons, Mike (Nicki) Beveridge of Lake Linden and Pat (Denise) Beveridge of Mundelein, Ill.; three grandsons, Chris, Nick, and Hunter; two granddaughters, Lilly and Cora; sisters, Helen (Alton) Beck of Crystal Falls, Joyce (John) Hendrickson of Lake Linden, Shirley Beauchene of Merrill, Wis., and Jeanne (Russell) Musich of Calumet; sister-in-law, Pia Altman of Ariz.; brothers-in-law, Jim (Elouise) Beveridge of Minn., George (Paulette) Beveridge of Lake Linden; sister-in-law, Dedee Tapani of Lake Linden.

She loved her nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

The Funeral Liturgy will be at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday in the Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden with Fr. Martin Flynn to officiate.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday before the service at the funeral home with the Post 90 American Legion Aux. service at 11 a.m.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Barbara’s family.
