James “Jim” Kargela

CALUMET – James “Jim” Kargela, 78, a resident of Calumet, passed away on Monday, February 24, 2014, at Marquette General Hospital.

Jim was born May 5, 1935 in Calumet, a son of William & Elma (Aho) Kargela. He attended local schools and graduated from Calumet High School, Class of 1953.

Jim sailed on the Great Lakes and worked in the Lake Linden Smelter until it closed. He also worked for White Pine and on Road Construction Crews. Lastly, he worked for the Lake View Cemetery until his retirement.

Jim was a veteran having served with the US Army in the 1950s.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Irving and Alan; and a sister, Dorothy.

He is survived by four brothers, George (Karen) Kargela of Calumet, Dan Kargela of Calumet, John “Jack” Kargela of Detroit, Mich., and Roger Kargela of Rice Lake Rd.; one sister, Helen (Ronald) Whiton of Swedetown; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to invite Friends and Family to a visitation to be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Erickson-Crowley-Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet.

Spring Burial and a Memorial Service will be held in the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet.

The Erickson-Crowley- Peterson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
