Wayne A. Wainio
HANCOCK – Wayne A. Wainio, 70, a resident of Hancock, passed away early Friday morning at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility where he had been a resident-patient.
Wayne was born March 18, 1943 in Detroit, son of Reino and Lillian (Jaasko) Wainio.
He then lived in Painesdale and was a basketball player and graduate of Jeffers High School. He was married to Ann Klemett from 1964 to 1984 and worked as a foreman in Wisconsin, retiring in Hancock in 2003.
He enjoyed sports, fantasy baseball, bowling, golf, cooking and going to the casino.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Surviving are two sons, Dale Wainio and Chris Wainio, both of Studio City, Calif.; two daughters, Pamela Wainio of Calumet and Marilyn (Frank) Arens of West Allis, Wis.; four grandchildren, Michael, Brenda, Brandon and Brittany; a great granddaughter, Saria; two brothers, Wilbert Wainio of Atlantic Mine and Clyde Wainio of Painesdale; a sister, Donna (Joe) Laforest of Negaunee; Ryan Wainio, Wade Wainio, Clayton Wakeham; among several nieces and nephews; and Darlene (Clarence) Lahti among several cousins.
A memorial service will be held for Mr. Wainio at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations towards funeral expenses would be most appreciated.
Spring burial will be in the Mountain View Cemetery in Atlantic Mine.
The Erickson-Crowley-Peterson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
