BB tourney is a team effort

To the editor:

The Hancock Athletic Booster Club sponsored the 11th Annual Hancock Elementary Basketball Tournament on Feb. 22 and 23, 2014, which is a major fundraiser for our organization.

Not only does this raise funds to support all our student athletes, from elementary to High School age, it also brings in money to the local economy.

Fifty-five elementary teams participated throughout the UP.

The players and their families stay in our local hotels, shop in our local stores and eat in our local restaurants.

I would like to thank our local sponsors: 41 Lumber, Amy J’s Pasty, Blau Distributing, Brockway Photography, Bruno’s Motors, City of Hancock, Coca-Cola Bottling of Hancock, Drive America LLC, Emily Dennis Photography, G&C Portable Toilets, Habaneros Fresh Mexican Kitchen, Hancock Bike Shop, Hanke Auto Body, Horner Flooring, Jim’s Pizza, Keweenaw Automotive, McGann Building Supply, Memorial Chapel & Plowe Funeral Homes, Northland Veterinary Clinic, OHM Advisors, Pat’s Foods, Penegor Lumber, Peterson Fish Market, Portage Health System, River Valley Bank, Sayen’s Business Equipment, State Farm Mike Lahti, Superior Service Towing, Twin Lakes Java, U.P. Laser Engraving and Wickley Agency.

The tournaments success depends on many volunteers each year. A special thank you to Cathe Sayen, tournament director, for putting in endless hours of work to make the tournament a success. We are grateful to our parent volunteers and student athletes who worked in the concession stands, ticket gates, clocks, score keeping, set up and clean up.

Also, thanks to Coach Curtis Wittenberg, and Finlandia University student athletes.

Finally, thank you to the members of the Hancock Athletic Booster Club for their help in organizing and running this event. A job well done!

Thank you.
