KEARSARGE – Raymond Mortti, 96, a resident of Kearsarge, passed away Tuesday morning, March 25, 2014, at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium.
He was born August 1, 1917, in Kearsarge, a son of the late August and Hattie (Lahti) Mortti. He attended the Calumet Public Schools. He lived his entire life in the Copper Country with the exception of 3 1/2 years when he worked in Detroit for the Packard Aircraft Division during WWII. Locally, Ray worked as a carpenter for several different construction companies.
On June 15, 1957, he was married to the former Marie Nault in Calumet. She preceded him in death on November 14, 2009.
Also preceding him in death were an infant son, Bruce; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Mortti; brothers, Sven and Arthur; and sister, Helen Bryant.
He is survived by son, Mark Mortti of Kearsarge; four daughters, Barbara Kitts of Monroe County, Mich., Karen Moilanen of Calumet, Judith (Lee) Schulte of Wisconsin, Sandra (John) Scotti of Cape Coral, Fla.; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held in the Spring in the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet.
The Erickson-Crowley-Peterson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
