Ontonagon woman arrested for assault

ONTONAGON – An Ontonagon woman was arrested Wednesday for felonious assault after refusing to drop a knife when told to do so by an Ontonagon Sheriff’s deputy, before eventually surrendering peacefully.

Audrey Johnston, 23, was arraigned on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, and resisting and obstructing an officer. She is currently lodged in the Ontonagon County Jail, with bond set at $500,000/10 percent.

According to sheriff’s department reports, a deputy responded to a residence around 8 p.m. Wednesday, after a complaint of verbal threats. Once the deputy was inside, Johnston came out of bedroom holding a knife. The deputy gave several verbal commands before the suspect dropped the knife and surrendered peacefully. No injuries to either the suspect or deputy were reported.
