Marie T. Kraft

CALUMET – Marie T. Kraft, 87, a resident of Calumet, passed away surrounded by her family at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium on Saturday, March 29, 2014.

She was born in Calumet on May 21, 1926, a daughter of the late Edward and Mayme (Burke) Schneiderhan.

Marie graduated from Calumet High School with the class of 1943.

On September 18, 1951, she was married to Glenn Kraft in the Sacred Heart Church in Calumet and he preceded her in death on October 4, 2002.

As a youth, Marie worked at Vertin’s as an elevator operator. She was employed most of her adult working years as an office attendant for Dr. Roach Sr. and Dr. Roach Jr. and for Dr. Thomas Bouwkamp.

Marie enjoyed baking, knitting, quilting and craft work. She was an avid bowler and bowled many games at Sacs Bowling Alley in Calumet. She had a love for sports that started when she would listen to games on the radio with her husband Glenn.

Her greatest joy was her family; she treated all of her nieces and nephews as her own children.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Calumet.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; and a niece, Karen Kraft Buck.

Surviving are two brothers, Ed (Carol) Schneiderhan of Lac La Belle and Bill (Dona) Schneiderhan of Calumet; nephews and nieces, Mark, Jayann, Scott, Heidi, Aimee, Gretchen, Rebecca, John, Ed and Tammy, Mike and David; 34 great nephews and nieces; and three great-great nephews.

Anyone wishing to donate a memorial in Marie’s name can do so by donating to one of her favorite causes, “The Monthly Community Dinner” c/o Sacred Heart Church, 1383 Rockland Street, Calumet, MI 49913 or any other charity of your choice.

A summer mass will be held in the Sacred Heart Church in Calumet followed by a burial in the Calvary Cemetery in Ahmeek.

The Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet is assisting the family with the arrangements.
