Eleanore “Nora” Tarak

HANCOCK – Eleanore “Nora” Tarak, 93, a former resident of Arbor Green, Houghton, died on April 3, 2014, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock.

She was born in Hancock Township, a daughter of the late Charles and Amanda (Kinnunen) Styrk and attended the Canal School in Hancock Township.

Nora worked in Muskegon, Mich., for 21 years as head cook at The Hermitage Nursing and Retirement Home.

She was married to James Tarak who preceded her in death in December of 1979.

Following her husband’s death, Nora returned to the area to make her home.

Nora was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock, where she was a member of the Quilters and Altar Guild of the church.

Surviving are a son, James (Sheri) Tarak of Ada, Mich.; a daughter, Jean (Duane) Hatch of Denver, Colo.; two grandchildren, Julie Tarak Anderson of Ada, Mich., and Jeff Tarak of Lowell, Mich.; two great-grandchildren, Sidney and Seth Anderson of Ada, Mich.; one sister, June Kauppi of Houghton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents, Nora was also preceded in death by four sisters, Esther Styrk who died in infancy, Ann Honkanen, Gertrude Smith and Agnes Niileksela.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 9, 2014, in the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Hancock, with Pastor D.J. Rasner to officiate.

Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.

Interment will be in the Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Muskegon.
