Honorable mention for Huskies’ Armga

HOUGHTON – Michigan Tech men’s basketball player Austin Armga was named Division II Bulletin All-America Honorable Mention, adding to a long list of accolades for the senior guard.

The native of Waupun, Wis., scored 736 points during the 2013-14 season, seven shy of the school record held by Ali Haidar (743) from last season. He also finished as Tech’s all-time leader in free throw percentage (86.8) and ninth in career scoring with 1,577 points. He led the Huskies to their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship game and the third most wins in school history.

Armga was Tech’s leader in scoring (23.0), rebounding (5.2) and minutes (34.3), while shooting 51.6 percent from the floor. He had five 30-point games this season, including a 38-point outburst against Southwest Minnesota State on Nov. 22. The Huskies finished 24-8, the most wins since the 2002-03 season.

In 2013-14, Armga was also named a Capital One Academic All-American and selected to the NABC Midwest Region First Team, Daktronics Midwest Region Second Team, GLIAC First Team, NCAA Midwest Regional All-Tournament Team and GLIAC All-Tournament Team.

Brandon Jefferson from Metro State was named the Division II Bulletin Player of the Year. Also representing the GLIAC were Greg Kahlig from Findlay, a second team selection, and Derek Billing from Lake Superior State, an honorable mention pick.
