HOUGHTON – Ellina Levin, 44, of Houghton, died on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium.
She was born on April 5, 1970, in Omsk, Russia, daughter of Joseph and Ella (Pinhusovich) Estrin.
She was educated there and worked as a medical doctor, with a specialty in neuropathology. She made aliyah to Israel in 1995 where she met and married Eugene Levin on January 10, 1997. Their daughter Aliza was born there. In 2000 the family moved to Los Angeles, where Ellina trained to be a respiratory therapist. The family then moved to Houghton where she first worked for Portage Health and later for Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital until the time of her passing.
She is survived by her husband, Eugene; daughter, Aliza of Houghton; and by many family members in Israel and by many friends.
A memorial service was held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 13, 2014 in the O’Neill-Dennis Funeral Home in Hancock.
Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to a special fund set up at the Michigan Tech Employees Federal Credit Union at 700 East Sharon Avenue in Houghton toward Ellina’s burial in Israel, or for her daughter Aliza’s education fund.
