Cheryl Ann (Makela) Zipp

LAURIUM – Cheryl (Makela) Zipp, 59, a resident of Mason and formerly of Laurium, passed away in Mason on February 17, 2014.

She was born the daughter of the late Douglas and Laila (Johnson) Makela.

She graduated from Calumet High School with the class of 1972. She participated with the marching band and was a cheerleader. Cheryl then went on to attend NMU and earned her degree at Jackson Community College as a registered nurse in 1977.

On August 18, 1973, Cheryl was married to John Zipp at Faith Lutheran Church in Laurium, Cheryl worked hard as an RN for many years. She was giving and compassionate, putting others before herself. She was strong willed and “She had so much SISU!” Cheryl enjoyed gardening and was a member of the Lansing Gardening Club. She loved cats, birds and knitting.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mason.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her father, Douglas Makela.

Surviving are her husband, John; sons, David M. Zipp, Jeffery P. (Angela J.) Zipp; daughter, Jamie M. (Scott) Clark; six grandchildren, Mathew, Ethan, Maylin Zipp, Owen, Jillian and Gloria Clark; her mother, Laila Makela of Lake Linden; brothers, Douglas, Robert and Stacey Makela.

The Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2014, at 2 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church of Mason, 131 E Maple, Mason, MI.

Contributions in Cheryl’s memory may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Mason.

She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.
