In Jim Bogan, LifePoint made the right decision

Earlier this week, LifePoint Hospitals and Duke LifePoint Healthcare, the Tennessee-based corporation which owns Portage Health in Hancock, Marquette General, in Marquette and Bell Hospital in Ishpeming, announced that Portage CEO Jim Bogan will have oversight of all three hospitals beginning next month. While we regret Bogan will leave the post he’s held for two-and-a-half decades at Portage, we have no doubt LifePoint has picked the right man for the job.

At Portage, Bogan has been at the helm for unprecedented growth and development. Despite changes and challenges in the healthcare delivery landscape, he steered Portage always in the right direction.

And through it all he has remained accessible, approachable and always committed to community involvement both at the corporate and individual level.

To us, nearly every major decision Bogan has made, was made not only with what’s best for Portage in mind, but with what’s best for our community as well.

We’ll admit that when LifePoint, in rather quick order, assumed ownership of three of the major healthcare providers in the U.P., we were a bit apprehensive.

But now with Jim Bogan overseeing it all, we feel a whole lot better.
