Millie E. Pekkala

HANCOCK – Millie E. Pekkala, 91, a resident of Hancock, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock.

The former Millie Lepisto was born on November 25, 1922, in Painesdale, a daughter of the late Alfred and Lillian (Solmonson) Lepisto. As an infant, she moved to Hancock where she resided for most of her lifetime.

She attended the Hancock Schools.

Millie had done various types of work during her lifetime. Lastly, she was employed as a nurse’s aide in home nursing. She had also done a lot of volunteer work with Cypress Manor in Hancock and for Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly.

On August 30, 1971, she was united in marriage to Raymond Pekkala, and he preceded her in death on December 8, 1978.

She was a former member of XYZ Club of Hancock, the Alfred Erickson Post 186 American Legion Auxiliary of Hancock and the F.O.E. Aerie 382 Auxiliary of Hancock.

Preceding her in death were her husbands; her son, Gerald Nordmark; her parents; and her half-brother, Gordon Nordmark.

Surviving are her daughters, Gracelia McCarthy and friend Scott of Milwaukee, Wis., Patricia (Richard) Rajchel of Nekoosa, Wis.; eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; her step-brother, William (Pat) Nordmark of Texas; special friend, Carol Korpela; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services for Millie will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2014, in the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Hancock with Rev. David Weber to officiate.

Spring Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock.

Friends may call on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, from noon until time of services at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Hancock.

Millie’s family would like to thank Little Brother’s Friends of the Elderly for their years of help and the staff of the Houghton County Medical Care Facility for the care given to Millie during her stay.
