EBEN JUNCTION – The first baseball games in Houghton High School history were a tremendous success, as the Gremlins routed Superior Central 11-0 and 19-6 in a doubleheader.
Trent Keteri took the ball in the opener, allowing just one hit and one walk and striking out seven.
Jonathan Bostwick had a three-hit game in the win, while Cole Jepsen, Keteri, Caleb Carlson, Justin Ruotsala, Brad Ward and Riley McKay all had a pair of hits.
In the second game, Jepsen was the winning pitcher, while he, Keteri, Connor Hannon, Spencer Donnelly and Brad Juntunen had two hits apiece.
The Houghton softball team also traveled to Alger County, but didn’t fare as well with the Cougars. Superior Central swept the doubleheader 8-2 and 9-2. Stats were not available for those games by press time.
