LAKE LINDEN – Bruce Laakso, 79, a resident of F Street in Lake Linden, passed away at his home on Tuesday, May 6, 2014.
He was born on July 23, 1934, in Calumet a son of the late Frans and Sylvia (Koski) Laakso.
Bruce moved with his family to the Detroit area in 1942.
He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, which he was very proud to have served his country.
Following his service time Bruce was a general laborer in the Detroit area before moving back to Lake Linden to care for his ailing parents and brother, Jack.
Bruce was an avid and faithful fan of the Detroit Tigers, Pistons, Lions and Red Wings attending games whenever given a chance.
Prior to his declining health Bruce could be seen attending to his yard and fixing up his home. He also enjoyed helping out his neighbors. He was a truly caring and softhearted man. Because of the type of man he was, his presence will be truly missed by all who knew him.
Preceding him in death was his parents; brothers, Albert, Frank, Kenneth and Jack; and a sister, Margaret Johncox.
Surviving are sister-in-law, Elizabeth (Burke) Laakso of Warren, Michigan; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 12, 2014, at 1 p.m. in the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet with Pastor Bob White to officiate.
Friends may call at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet on Monday from 12 to 1 p.m.
Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
